Yes we test our frames with a newton meter before shipping, we don't mesh frames untill they go out the door to ensure the highest quality. Depending on the mesh, we stretch to 30-50 newtons the frames come off the machine a little lower than that but normally no more than 3-5 newtons less.

I will try Lance's screens out chris, thanks for the advice.

I bought some shurloc mesh panels the other day and I put one in this morning and stretched it to about 30 newtons. It was really easy so I will be remeshing some newmans next week.

Chris, the guy that drops by works for himself and mainly does screens but also sells various supplies. Do you have a tension meter, if so what are your screens measuring?

"Hi all! Hope to get in and participate more often around Lance's forum. I am a good old fashioned user of wooden frames.... I know... but I really do love them. Also use the occasional static aluminum."

LA,
Hey man wood frames are great, my company makes both wood and alum frames and the woods are great sellers. They don't last as long as alum, but they are very cost friendly and they get the job done right.

"We have about 50 newmans that we don't use because of the mesh that is in them, either way to high or low. I have been thinking of remeshing all of them and using them for our tougher jobs."

Hey Alan,
I know of the 2 distributors you are reffering to, I don't have a clue who the guy is that just shows up does he work for a local company or does he make the frames himself? I am very aware of the pro's and con's of Newman frames, screen printers love the way they perform but they are just too expensive to purchase. Why don't you try this, get some frames from Lance at Calibrated, they are my frames and I think you will like them, I would also like to know what you think of them.

Chris, we have used two local suppliers, River City Graphic Supply and a guy that stops by every other month with screens for sale. We also use Graphic Solutions Group. We have had the tightest screens from the lone traveling transient screen guy. All of the meshes have been below par, from 110 all the way to 305. We have about 50 newmans that we don't use because of the mesh that is in them, either way to high or low. I have been thinking of remeshing all of them and using them for our tougher jobs.

What mesh counts were you having trouble with? And where have you been getting your frames at, what companies I mean? Roller frames are great but they are kinda spendy.

We use newman rollers and static aluminum. I would prefer the aluminum if they were at proper tension but 80% of our statics are under 20N. We are currently in the process of going back to the newmans where as we were using the static aluminums about 90% of the time. If I could get a supplier that would gauranty the aluminums will be at least 20-25N, prefer at least 30, then I would buy them, but our three suppliers so far have not been able to produce very many screens that were up to proper tension level.

While there is not a large amount of costs involved with the running of this site, it does however take a considerable amount of my time. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
